What is Success?

When you start thinking about how successful you may become in life, you really don't ever believe it'll actually happen. Back when I was 18 and just beginning my career in radio, I thought my voice was more like Mickey Mouse than anything else, and I remember when my family moved to PA in the spring of 1990, I had one station tell me "We can't put you on the air because your New England accent would embarrass yourself as well as our station." Needless to say,

the only thing I did there was spin records and do behind the scenes things. I moved onto a morning show position with an AM station that had a "Music of your Life" format. meh, it was OK, but really wasn't what I actually saw myself doing. I did find my love of radio however at Sunny 106 in DuBois, PA. First, I was a morning show co-host, then a morning show host. Of course, there were other areas I excelled at, such as production, engineering, maintenance and more. This really cause my career to take off. It was a rush, almost like you were a small-town celebrity. Everywhere I went people noticed me when they heard my voice. People asked me, "You're the same in person as you are on-air, why?" Well, I don't believe in being anyone other than who I am, no matter where I am or what I'm doing. I had reached success. It's not being a big-time jock in a big city or being a movie star in Hollywood. I used to look at Ryan Seacrest and speak. "I could do that!" Hard to believe this shy kid growing up was now talking to 15,000 people at the same time. Success comes in many ways! It can be in a small community, excelling in your profession, passing a test in school, even just getting your driver's license, so think of what you do on a day-to-day basis. Have you reached it?
